Margaret Dunlop Gibson, along with her twin sister, Agnes Smith Lewis, was a scholar of Semitic Languages. Born in Scotland and educated by their father the sisters traveled to the Middle East and Egypt several times before eventually settling in Cambridge, England. In 1883, Margaret married James Young Gibson, essayist and translator; but she was widowed after only three years of marriage.
